John H Heermann Farms began changing the way they farmed back in 2012. At a farming conference, John realized our water cycle, life cycle, and most importantly, our soil, were broken. We have spent the last 13 years making decisions and farming in a way that tries to revitalize our soils. Throughout this adventure, we have seen water infiltration rates skyrocket, and earthworms return to the soil, and we have reduced our use of chemicals and fertilizers. We are located in Northeast Colorado near Haxtun.

We utilize over 20 cover crop species to boost soil photosynthesis, support beneficial insects, and replenish nutrients, effectively eliminating wind and soil erosion. We treat soil as protection from elements, avoiding pesticides and fungicides that harm soil life, while occasionally using herbicides and tillage for weeds. Our grains grow without herbicides or chemicals and are cleaned by Johnny Clippers Seed Cleaning, which recently added a Color Sorter for quality assurance. These grains are used by our family for bread, pancakes, and waffle mixes.
